Features missing or broken from Linux VR:
Major issues:
- Firmware update features completely missing on Linux
- Missing Motion Smoothing (comfort/performance, aids with frame drops)
Minor issues:
- Custom maps in Half-Life Alyx mostly don't work
- Volume control in SteamVR overlay doesn't work
Broken Missing audio input/output selector so you have to reconfigure your audio every time you start or stop SteamVR
- General stability issues / bugs. Not usually serious ones but they seem more common on Linux.
- Switching refresh rates on the Index requires rebooting SteamVR
- SteamVR Room Setup crashes on Index (see SteamVR Bug #419)
- WORKAROUND: Disconnect any game controllers
- Valve's own The Lab doesn't work properly in Linux
- No GNOME DRM leasing support (mutter issue, not SteamVR at fault)
Resolved long-term issues:
- Missing power management for lighthouses so you have to pull the power and power drain them to power them on
- Also useful: "Lighthouse PM" app on Android to do this remotely
- Extreme latency and jitter on overlay
(nvidia) No Async reprojection (major issue, comfort/motion sickness)
- FIXED - install r470+ drivers
- Nvidia tearing when any gsync monitor is plugged in
- Exit VR button not implemented
- Exit VR button in dashboard doesn't work (again)
- Extreme timing issues causing constant frame drops multiple times per second even with very little load
- Half-Life: Alyx doesn't show Linux support
- (nvidia/fixed?) Performance is poor if Maximum Performance is not enforced with Nvidia Settings. (Workaround - Feral's game mode now has a setting to force Nvidia perf modes and then drop it back down when the application closes. This can be used on the SteamVR tool itself.)
- (nvidia/fixed?) Latency on basically everything (motion sickness) (possibly related to the above, very hard to diagnose as it seems to vary even within the same application)
